As a Tesla owner myself, Yes I am aware that Tesla comes with in-built camera that can records road incident via the inserted memory stick and the awesome 360 degree sentry mode. There are however 3 limitations of using Tesla in built dash cam which non professional is unaware!
1. Tesla default front recording camera has a extremely narrow angle of view of 60 degrees which provide very limited angle of the accident footage. The added on camera has 150 degrees angle of view which covers almost thrice the footage scene which is crucial in evidence recording.
2. Sentry mode (to record in parking mode) consumes approximately 2.6km/hour of battery life. Assuming you activate round the clock sentry mode (24 hours) it consumes approximately 62.4 km. Converting to kwh costing it might cost you around $2.50 SGD per day of sentry mode (SGD$900+ per year of electrical cost). Rate of return is less than 1 years of usage to break even cost of getting an external dash cam setup.
3. Sentry mode will NOT work if battery life is less than 20%. Hence if your battery is low on a day and accident happens, it would not capture the footage.

The electrical system of Tesla is totally different of that from traditional ice car. They do not comes with fusebox hence pls do not risk installation electrical item from 3rd party personnel not familiar with Tesla. I am the early EV adopter who have been working relentlessly with Tesla repair since 2019 on my very own UK imported model 3 before Tesla enter Singapore.
